Weather Lore

Candlemas Folklore: Watching the BBC 2 series "The Edwardian Farm" recently I was intrigued to learn about the old folklore surrounding Candlemas (2nd February). The old rhyme is: If Candlemas be fair and bright Winter will have another fight If Candlemas brings cloud and rain Winter won't come again Candlemas is exactly half way between the winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox, meaning that half the winter is gone and half is to come and the rhyme predicts how we will fare in the second half of winter.
